In reply to <a href="https://popyourcareer.com/art-managing-a-team/#comment-22">Sirhc Ellav</a>.

Hi Sirhc,

Apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for sharing the article on becoming a project manager - it contains some great info! My advice would be this:

* A project manager does need to be across everything, but not in minute detail.
* The project manager knows where everything is in the project, but they aren't the one doing it all - this is what the technical team members are for and if you focus too much on "doing it all" you will send yourself crazy.
* Get to now your team and learn to trust them. They are working in their area of strength and you just need to guide and support them.

I would suggest expanding your network and reaching out to some project managers in your area to see if they would be willing to have a coffee with you to help you understand where your job starts and ends. You might also want to have a meeting with your manager to understand what their expectations are for your role.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful question and apologies again for the late reply!

Hello Becca.

I am just been promoted as a product manager after the previous unexpectedly quit so I was "ushered" into this position without having too much experience about how it all works.

I just finished reading another post (http://thinkthyme.com/project-management/how-to-become-a-project-manager) which linked here and I have a question that maybe you can answer:

How can you manage people's expectations? it seems like project manager is basically "doing all". Is there a line where our responsibilities end or are we really in charge of it all from start to finish.

Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
