Need a new resume or cover letter?

In 2018, resumes look a lot different than they did 10 years ago. A quick search on Pinterest and you'll find thousands of images of beautifully styled resumes, with pops of colour to help you stand out from the crowd. 

Now, I am all for designing your resume in a way that helps you differentiate yourself from the competition, but that's not to say we should forget about the content - after all, your skills, experience, knowledge and personal attributes are the things that will help you win the role.

When we work together to create a resume, I am focusing on balancing the elements of content and design, to bring together a resume that you are proud to send out to potential employers. Some people may poo-poo the need for sharp presentation, but I am far from convinced. As a long-term professional recruiter and HR manager, I can confidently tell you this: 

The content in your resume is King. But if you organise your content well, it shows that you have pride, confidence,
creativity and passion. It is much like polishing your shoes before you go to an interview. It won't
necessarily win you the job, but it could definitely earn you some brownie points.

If you are applying for jobs and not attaching a well-thought-out, tailored cover letter, you are missing a huge opportunity to pitch yourself as the most suitable candidate for the job. There's no doubt about it. A cover letter is an essential part of your job application arsenal and it is arguably as important as your resume. 

Although cover letters don't require as much design as a resume, preparing a cover letter that directly aligns with the role you're applying for is a bit of an art-form. I'm all for tailoring your cover letter to ensure it matches the language of the advertisement and tells your story in a way that will mean potential employers won't be able to resist inviting you for an interview. 

When you hire me to create a resume OR COVER LETTER, here's what you can expect: 

  1. First up, we have a short phone consultation of approximately 30-45 minutes. During this call, we will talk about your skills and experience, as well as the types of jobs you are applying for. Don't be nervous - I have a lot of practice at helping people communicate their strengths, so you have nothing to worry about!
  2. During your consultation, we will also talk about when you need your resume. Usually, my standard turnaround time is within 7 days, but if you need your resume sooner, I can usually accomodate this. Please just keep in mind that there may be a priority fee charged if you need your resume extra fast, but we will cover off on this when we talk. 
  3. I will go away and prepare your resume. If I need any further information from you, or you think of something you forgot to mention during your consultation, we can communicate via email. 
  4. When your resume is complete, I will share it with you, along with any relevant font files or other documents. I will provide you with your resume in Microsoft Word and PDF formats unless otherwise arranged. 
  5. If you need me to make any changes, please let me know. I want you to be happy with the finished product! Please note that one round of revisions is included in the price of your resume, provided that changes are requested within seven days. If further changes are required, there may be an additional charge. 
  6. Once you are happy with your resume, I would absolutely love you to write me a testimonial for my website! Of course, you can remain anonymous - I'll only include your first name. However, if you'd be happy to send through a photo as well, you'll be able to see yourself up in lights on my client love page. If you have a website, I'd be more than happy to link it!

want help writing A SELECTION CRITERIA RESPONSE or statement of claims?

There is a bit of a knack to writing a response to selection criteria and if you aren't sure how to put your experience into words, I don't blame you. It can be incredibly tricky. Luckily, I have years and years of experience writing selection criteria responses for clients, and I am confident in framing your career achievements in a way that will impress potential employers. 

When it comes to selection criteria responses, I do prefer to quote on a case by case basis, as they usually vary so much from role to role and employer to employer.   • Key selection criteria responses (up to 400 words) - $85 AUD per question
